Raised at Middlesborough 21.12.14 by the Mayor and Town. To Gosforth. August 1915 to Cannock Chase. 27.08.15 taken over by the War Office. September 1915 to Badajoz Barracks, Aldershot as Pioneer Battalion 40th Division. 02.06.16 landed at Boulogne. 05.05.18 reduced to Cadre. 28.06.18 cadre absorbed by 17th Worcestershire Regiment at La Belle Holesse, South West of Hazebrouck.

On 07/03/1911 Tom was appointed manager of Middlesborough FC.

His 1st season in charge saw 'Boro finish sixth in the First Division.

The next season they finished 3rd, which is still the highest they have ever finished.
War broke out in 1914 and the following year Tom joined the 12th Service Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment, known as the Teeside Pioneers. He was just short of his 36th birthday.

Before long he was promoted to Company Quarter Master Sergeant.

On 30/08/1915 Tom married his second wife, Betsy Thompson in Middlesborough. In Jan 1916 Tom's company landed in France. He later received his commission (29/01/1917) becoming a 2nd Lieutenant and was mentioned in despatches twice.

After being demobilized Middlesborough FC won the Northern Victory League but, on 30/10/1919 Tom resigned as manager of Middlesborough. He became Secretary-Manager of Everton FC and is the man who signed Dixie Dean. Tom died in post in 1935.
