Walter's Story

In 1917 Walter returned to Ypres after coming home for his Wife Cissie Funeral in April, his mother in law had died in the March . They both died of the Flu. Walter took his little girl Ada Ivy aged two to his brother in Liverpool and asked them to look after her until he returned . He was gased at Hell fire corner Ypes on 15th July 1917 aged 32. He had been laying railway track, so supplies could be taken to the front. In 2007 we visited his graveside on 15th July.

I was very proud of my Grandpa. My Mother Ada Ivy died in February 2008 aged 93. He will never be forgotten.
