Richard Pemberton's Story

His name is recorded on the British Memorial stone at Arras at Faubourg, D'Amiens Cemetary. His obituary notice was in The Times on Friday 18 May 1917. He is also referred in the War Graves Memorial Register published by the Imperial War Graves Commission, London 1928, Part 12, p.665 as :- Innes A.B, Richard Pemberton z/925 R.N.V.R Howe Bn. R.N Div. 24 April 1917. Son of the late Charles Edward Innes of Islips Manor, Northolt, Middlsex.

Killed in action Arras, France

In 1920 a marble tablet was erected in St. Mary's, Northolt, Middlesex, which can still be seen today. There is also a brass with R.P. Innes engraved with other soldiers, not on general view. The tablet says:

To the Glory of God and in affectionate remembrance of Richard Pemberton Innes - fifth sons of Charles Edward Innes of this Parish - of the Hawke Battalion, Royal Naval divisio, who after taking part in the Gallipoli campaign fell in action while serving with the Howe Battalion at Gravelle, near Arras, France on the 24 April 1917.
