Arthur's Story

Arthur originally joined the N. Lancs Regiment but when his comrades were all killed except for him and one other, he was transferred to the Border Regiment. He was killed at Ypres on 13 March 1918 and is buried at Artillery Wood Cemetery, Boezinge. He was my uncle.

Arthur was the eldest child of James Henry and Mary Jane Sager of Halliwell, Bolton.

He had one brother, Thomas, and two sisters, Lily and Annie.

Their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have always known about Arthur and will continue to honour his memory.

Lily's family have visited the grave at Artillery Wood Cemetery.
