William's Story

Born: 22nd August 1895 at 10:10pm at Blanfield Cottage, Broughton Road, St Andrew Parish, Edinburgh. “ Reported by father with incorrect wedding details as 7/June not 25/Nov!

Enlisted on 05/Dec/1914 into 16th Royal Scots (MacRaes Battalion) serial number 19856 as John MacLeod aged 21years and 3 months after initial rejection or so your parents did not find out?

Formed at Edinburgh, December 1914, by Lt-Col. G.McCrae, MP.

June 1915 : attached to 101st Brigade, 34th Division.

Embarked to France on 08/01/16 and encountered following battles:

Lead up to Battle of Somme 1916 on 01/Jul/16-18/Nov/16

Died: 21/06/16 aged 20 years 10 months when under rifle grenade attack and buried at Albert Communal Cemetery Extension 28K NE Amiens Plot I G 20.
