Harold's Story
Every Year for the last 10 years since I discovered the existence of my Great Uncle, I have gone to the Tyne Cot Cemetery to place a cross beneath his name on the RMLI memorial as there is no grave with my Father. I have never been able not to weep at the sight of so many lives lost to take just a few hundred meters of ground.
I weep for someone I never knew
This year, it will be even more poignant, as my Father died on the 23rd of September 2008 and I shall have to do this on my own. I shall continue to honour the memory of my Great Uncle until I too become too old or infirm to do so and hopefully my son will come with me and continue the act of remembrance, and see the testament to the futility of war.
