Will's Story

My maternal grandfather, Will Percy Clark, joined the Royal Marines Light Infantry while slightly under age.

Wounded at Zeebrugge

He later took part in the raid on Zeebrugge from HMS Iris, a converted ferry. During the raid he was badly wounded in the leg and later hospitalised at Queen Mary's hospital Southend (later the Palace Hotel). His injury required him to wear a device that incorporated a spring to enable him to kick his leg forward when walking.

More details to follow.
