On researching the family (John Edward Barker is my Great Grandfather) I have found that he went to the Western Front on 2.3.1915 as a Sgt.
He was discharged to a commission on 24.7.1915
John fought at Ypres and Loos. He was killed n action on 13.10.1915 leaving behind a wife and 4 year od daughter.
He is remembered with honour on the Loos Memorial
