Robert's Story
Robert Isherwood was the eldest son of Robert and the late Margaret Isherwood, a very poor family living in the heart of Preston. He was captured in August 1916, not long after he had joined the front line. He died in the Prisoner of War camp Friedrichsfeld. My father, Rev. James Isherwood and his twin brother Rev. Marmaduke Isherwood tried to find his grave in Cologne in the 1960s, but failed. Thanks to the internet I was successful and visited the Commonwealth War graves in Cologne Southern Cemetery XI E 13 a silent, still place of rest.
