James William's Story
In Memory of Corporal J.W. Upson 700209
I remember my Grandmother telling me of the brother she lost in the Great War. He was her 'Jimmy', and it was terrible loss. She also lost her Mother the same year. I found details about him at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. I visited the Menin Gate at Ypres and found his name, to pay my respects . My Grandmother died in 1993 and never knew he was remembered on it , so it was with her in mind that I went. He died on the 7th June 1917 with the 1st/23rd London Regiment aged 18.
