George Harry's Story
George Harry Myatt was born on 7th March 1898 in Willenhall West Midlands, (Staffordshire as it was then), the son of a locksmith.
He lied about his age to volunteer for military service for the Great War.
I have very little information about his military service, but I believe he joined the South Staffs initially but it was as Corporal 40565 of the 7th Battalion Norfolk Regiment that he was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry, the citation read:-
On the 22nd August 1918, in the attack east of Morlencourt this N.C.O. was ordered to take a patrol to get in touch with the battalion on the left. In accomplishing this he attacked & captured a machine gun and ten prisoners including one officer.
Throughout the day he worked untiringly for the success of the operation & showed a fine example to his men.
He was discharged sometime in 1920.
