A bit about Edwards Life

Here pictured are Martin Dohney and pal, Edward Murphy. Edward Murphy is my Grandfather. Martin and Edward were pals from the same town of Waterford in Ireland. They both served in The Great War. Martin was in the Scots Guards and Edward was in the The Royal Irish Regiment. Martin was wounded on the 29/9/1914 with a shrapnel wound in his chest. And subsiquently this caused his death on the 31/10/1915. Martin left a wife and two daughters. Edward returned from the war after being gassed which caused him a degree of blindness. I know that he took part in The Battle For ST Eloi. Although it is quite difficult to find much information about The Royal Irish Regiment at this battle. Some years later Edward married Martins widow and raised Martins daughters as his own. They had a further 12 children, 9 of who survived. One of which was my mother, I feel that these were two very brave men and should never be forgotton. It is by some strange twist of fate that I and my children are here today.
