Soldier Record

my great grandad Oliver Ormrod from Oldham,Lancashire joined the army as a T/A but was soon posted to the front in Ypres, Belgium,it was to be his first day as a loyal Lancashire soldier and as history is written his last,for on the day he arrived, he was hit from a shell blast on the second battle of the day, and killed instantly he was just 30 years old.They say no remains where ever found not even his name tag?We also know that the day he died was on his wedding anniversary and just six days after his 30th birthday.Unlike most soldiers who where killed and have a place of burial in the war graves I am saddened that my great grandad has no resting place to date why is this so, my family and I have no grave to visit bearing his name,he has become a lost figure to this country to which he bravely gave up his life to protect.

My great grandads name is on the memorial at Theipval,he was to us a true hero who gave his life for his country,I am aware that he was awarded medals on two occasions for his services.Like so many who lost members of there family in the first war my family has a duty to carry his name with pride.He died leaving a wife and two children.
