Arthur's Story

He survived the trench then the air war.

Arthur was born on 25th October 1895 to Joseph and Alice Peak. He joined the army in 1913 and was posted to C Company 6 Battalion Manchester Regiment. He served with them until 1917 when he joined 110 Squadron Royal Flying Corps. He became a 2nd Lieutenant on 1st September 1918, and left the RFC in 1920. After the war he married Elsie Butterfield, his long time sweatheart, and together they had two children. In civilian life Arthur was an electric meter inspector, he died in Bispham Blackpool on 18th September 1974. Elsie died two years later.
