Lane's Story
2nd Lieutenant Frank Lane died at the age of 23 on 16th May 1917 at Bullecourt near Arras, just 12 days after arriving with his Unit in France and on his 4th day in the front line, when D Coy of 2/1 Bn London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) to which he was posted, attacked and captured a section of the Hindenburg Line, called Bovis Trench.

He died within yards of the spot where today a memorial called 'The Digger' stands just outside the village of Bullecourt.
He has no known grave, but is commemorated on the Arras Memorial .
Frank was the son of Henry James Lane and Lucy Ann Lane of Westexe, Tiverton. His name appears on the War Memorial in St Pauls Church in Westexe, Tiverton, Devon. he was my Great Uncle, his sister Rhoad Dorothy lane, being my paternal Grandmother.
