Sidney's Story
Young Sidney Sherriff (top right) served in Royal Welch Fusiliers in WW1, then India between wars, then France WW2 before capture.

Continued in India until UK posted on 20/2/30.
He rose to RSM of the RWF in WW2 & post war. Captured at Dunkirque as part of the rearguard guarding a canal. Eventually he was put in charge of the entire Lamsdorf POW camps in Silesia, Poland - a multinational (including Polish Jews & women soldiers) other ranks & civilian internment camp.
Full military honours funeral at Rhyl in 1954.

My only memory of him is as a very young child visiting him in the Royal Alexandra Hospital Rhyl, where he was dying on cancer in 1954. I am very proud to have him as my grandfather.
