Cebert's Story

My father's war

Cebert landed on Gallipoli with his two brothers, Walter and Cecil, at Suvla Bay. He was assigned to stretcher-bearer duties under Captain Oskar Teichman and took part in the crossing of the Salt Lake during the attack on Scimitar Hill on August 21st 1915. Most of the events of that day were wiped from his memory and he occasionally expressed concern that he had somehow failed in his duty. His mind was put at rest at a Regimental reunion when he was told by another survivor that he had seen him tending wounded under heavy rifle and shell fire.
