Timothy Harold's Story
I probably won't be home again
Timothy, or Ted, joined the Reserve Battalion 4th Gloucestershire Reg in 1914 as a Private. Was transferred to the1/4TH Battalion KOYLI. Sent to the Somme in 1916. Had a visit home prior to the Battle of the Somme and told his parents, brothers and sisters that as he was now a 2nd Lieutenant he probably would not see them again. He didn't. On the 5th of July 1916 at 6.40 am after the enemy attacked a position held by the 5th KOYLI and gained entrance, the enemy being repelled by two squads of the Battlion Bombing Platoon and W Company under Capt.C.H.Plackett. The said was reported missing and 2nd Lieutenant Timothy Riordan among casualties. Timothy died on July 6th from a neck wound and is buried at Forceville Cemetry, just 20 yrs of age.
