William Frederick's Story

I researched this soldier's story as part of my family history. A cousin of my grandfather, he enlisted in 1914, joining the 2nd Battalion the Suffolk Regiment before the outbreak of war. His active service began on April ist 1915, and by the summer of 1916 he was on the Somme. He was killed in action near Serre on November 13th 1916 just three days before the battle ended. Although his name appears on the war memorial outside the village church at Creeting St Peter in Suffolk, I think it likely that I am the only relative ever to have visited his grave in Luke Copse War Cemetery.
