Arnold's Story
I have no memory of Arnold, one day at a funeral my grandad took me and my dad to see his fathers grave and on the bottom of it was a memorial scroll dedicated to Arnold, my Grandads Brother.
After doing years of research I have discovered that Arnold joined the 23rd London Regiment as a Private. In 1915 he was Commisioned into the West Yorkshire Regiment and eventually transfered to the 2nd Battalion of that Regiment.
He served in France and was killed on 1st August 1917 at Third Ypres. His body was never found and he is commemorated on the Menin Gate. One of the most important things about Arnold is that he was awarded the Military Cross and Bar - one of only about 3,000 people during World War One.
I never knew him but feel that after all I have done to try and bring his story to life I now know him - Rest In Peace Arnold
