Wounded 13 July 1915. Bullet wounds to arm and groin.

Discharge report reads:-
Admitted to clearing station 14 July 1915. Died of wounds (GSW) Chest.

World War I. Age 22 years.

Gallipoli campaign April 1915 to January 1916.


Alf is buried at the Cape Helles Lancashire Landing cemetery which is situated 1 kilometre west of Sedd el Bahr village. It stands on a small ridge named Karaja Oghul Tepe, 110 metres above the sea and overlooking "W" beach.

1914 Star
Instituted in 1917 for service ashore in France and Flanders between 5 August and 22 November 1914. In 1919 a clasp bearing the above dates was authorised and given to those individuals who had actually been under fire between the prescribed dates.
