James's Story

As a child I was told that my grandfather James Turner took part in the Battle of the Somme and that his was responsible for taking care of the horses in the 1st World War, particularly the gun carriage horses. I am not sure what regiment he was attached to. Before the war he worked at a Country Estate as an Ostler therefore I must presume he was either called up or volunteered and because of his knowledge and experience with horses was assigned to an artillery regiment.
