Richard's Story

A gentle family man who volunteered for what he believed was right.

Richard Johnston was a tailor, an ordinary family man with a beautiful wife and three very young children. He volunteered for the RIR and was sent to France. He died on the first day of the Somme, aged 24. His body was never found or identified. His name is inscribed on the memorial at Thiepval and on the hearts of those who loved and lost him.
