John Cyril's Story
Cyril joined the army at the age of sixteen after lying about his age
Cyril was devoted to his parents and brothers, he wrote home frequently fom his basic training in Suffolk to his service in France, the letters we still have in our possession. He died on 1st July 1916 at Gommecourt. His family never got over their loss.

Cyril (as he was known) was orginally going to be a stretcher bearer, but became a bomber for the Somme Offensive at Gommecourt. He is buried at British Cemetery no2 at Hebuterne, Gommecourt.
