John's Story

I cannot, or rather do not want to imagine the pain of losing a child. My Great Grandparents lost 3

My grandfather was one of 6 boys and 2 girls. 3 of the boys were killed in the 1st world war and 1 in the second world war. My grandparents were very private people and did not talk about the past. I found John whilst researching my family tree - he is one of the Uncles that my father and his siblings not only never met, but never even knew existed. He was killed during the battle of the Somme in 1916 leaving a widow named Mary.
