Joseph's Story

My mum remembers a large oil painting in her grans house of her uncle Joseph in full highland dress. He was known as Jack at home. We don't know why he joined a Scottish regiment. He was posted missing presumed dead on 25th September 1915 following the battle of Loos in France. He was not talked about a great deal I assume because of the great sadness. It was only in the last couple of years I found out about him when mum was remembering her childhood. I have told my sons and daughter about Jack and have made a promise to visit the Loos memorial and keep his memory alive within the family. Unfortunately the picture was lost when the family were bombed out of their house near Trafford Park, Manchester in the second world war. I try to make my children and now grandchild aware of how fortunate they are and what a debt they owe. We WILL remember him. Jack (Joseph) Draisey Private service number14587.
