Derek's Story
Harry Angier enlisted in the East Surrey Regiment in August 1914.Joined the 8th Batillion under Capt Nevill.After service in the trenches in 1915 .Took part in the Somme Battle and was badly wounded on the 1st July succesfully attacking Montaubon.He was wounded waving a flag to tell the artillery that they had reached the objective.All comunications had been severed,runners killed.He was badly hit by schrapnel either British or French.All officers either killed or wounded.Taken back
to uk by ambulance train.In 1917 shipped out toMespotamia and fought the Turks with 4th Queens and 90th Punjabis.After end o war went with his 90th Punjabis to the NW Frontier.Came home in 1922.Was expressing shrapnel from his body thouhout the rest of his life,including service with the RAF 1941 to 1946
