My great gransfather's battalion attacked and captured a strategic German position in woods just outside the town of Thiepval in France.

Served with 10th btn royal warwickshires..killed on 21/07/1916 commemorated on memorial at Thiepval

2 days later the Germans retaliated with an artillery bombardment in which my great grandfather was killed, it was on his day off !!....His body was never found, his name is one of 55,000 soldiers that were killed at Ypres who's bodies were never found.
