William Jackson's Story
Grandfather was killed on 5th July 1916 - 2 days before his 30th Birthday
My Grandfather was killed on 5th July 1916 - 2 days before his 30th Birthday. My father was only 18 months old at this time and doesn't remember his father at all. We only knew that my Grandfather was killed in a very bloody battle and thought he was buried in a mass grave in France. Since my own Dad has died we have found out that my Grandfather has his own grave and is buried at Beaumont Hamel in a special cemetery, along with lots of others who were killed at the Battle of the Somme.
