John William's Story
Fought in a forgotten corner of conflict
John William Hilton was born at 23 Garden St Hooley Hill Lancashire (now part of Tameside) in 1888. He joined up with his brother Harold and they were posted to D Company 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders. They were shipped to Mesopotamia, and Harold died during an attack on Turkish trenches at Sanniyat on 22 February 1917. John William survived. He later became a leather dresser and died on 2nd November 1948.
