Frederick John's Story

A star of the Boys brigade and was on Queen Victoria's last visit to Ireland. In Royal (Field/ horse) Artillery in India but had typhoid and malaria, so invalided home and then in fort on Isle of Wight. We have service record and more.

For WW1 was rejected in home town but accepted in Burton for N Staffs. Left wife and child, but fortunately survived. But on return work was harder than for those who did not join up. He was a fitter at Chilwell ordnance depot and various companies.
