Robert's Story
I have always looked up to my grandfather although i never really knew him. mainly because he was commisioned from the ranks and went on to get the Military Cross with a rose. My grand mother used to have his service revolver in her attick, untill my father took it to the police during an armistice, shame really with the provenance it would be a real collectors item or museum piece.
When I was 50 I commissioned as a Captain in the TA, 201 field hospital, I think my grandfather would have been proud if he was still alive.
He survived the Great War and went on to command a Home Guard dettachment in Darlington in ww2.
he was descended from norfolk fishermen one of which won a medal ( RNLI) at Caister.
