Thomas's Story
Tom was a career soldier he served with 1 Bn Manchester Regt Jullundur Bde in India. He arrived on the Western Front in August 1914. He did not get to see his newborn daughter Mary she was born in April 1917. If the baby had been a boy he had asked that his wife Mildred call him Albert, a place where he had been stationed. Sadly 2394 Serjeant Thomas Bennett was killed at the battle of Laangemark on 17 August 1917 whilst serving with 11 Bn Manchesters. He has no known grave. Tom's mother never recovered from her grief at his death.
