Dennis Brook's Story
T/2/Lt Dennis Brook Howard, LG, Awarded Military Cross, 3 Mar 1917, 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He displayed great courage and determination in keeping up telephonic communications under very heavy fire.' Killed in action, 22 Oct 1917 with 12 Battery, 35th brigade RFA.
Brother to Cecil Eric Howard was also an Officer in 12 Bty Rolay Artillery, who was wounded at the Somme, but survived the war. Buried in the Hut Cemetry. The Hut Cemetry was near gun positions, and nearly two-thirds of the soldiers buried in it were gunners. Along the road there was a line of huts , used from July to November 1917 for the accomodation of field ambulances, during the Batttle of Ypres, 1917.
