Donald Arthur's Story

Photo taken in February 1916. Donald was one of eight children, he had three brothers and four sisters. One of his brothers died in 1912 and two of his other brothers also fought in the First World War.

My Great Uncle Donald Homersham

He had served an apprenticeship as a bootmaker and before joing up was workin in one of the London shops of Messrs Upson the boot people. He joined the Army at Christmas 1914 and was killed instantly by a shell on Friday 6th October 1916. He had been promoted to Corporal and was awarded the military medal for rescuing his officer on the 1st July 1916.
