Allan's Story
Allan Cameron was born on 14 August 1891, in the County of Argyll, the son of Peter Cameron (d.1920) and Mary Cameron (maiden surname McNicol). He was the nephew of the Scottish pioneer of the caesarean section, Professor Murdoch Cameron (1847-1930), and first cousin to both the Reguis Professor of Midwifery at the University of Glasgow, Professor Samuel James Cameron (1878-1959) and to the distinguished Glasgow physician, Dr Agnes Wallace Cameron (1879-1975). He grew up in Port Appin, Argyllshire before returning to Glasgow as a young man. He served as a Private in the 15th Bn of the Highland Light Infantry, and was killed on 1 September 1917 holding the front line to the Belgian coast. He is buried at Coxyde Military Cemetery, Belgium.
