William's Story
William Slater was 43 years of age when he was called up to act as a medic/stretcher bearer in Gallipoli. He was the father of ten children. He began a diary beginning 2nd May 1915 of the daily incidents and battles. His diary ceased on 20th July and he was killed in action 27th July 1915. He is remembered with honour at the Helles war memorial, Gallipoli.
