Lawton's Story
Lawton was killed just before the Armistice in November 1918
Lawton Thomas James was my great uncle, my grandmother's eldest brother. He was born in 1984 and died aged 24 on September 18 1918, when my grandmother was 17. Lawton was killed just before the Armistice in November 1918. I do not know which regiment he was in or which conflict he was killed at, or anything about his military years. He is remembered on a memorial in Chapel Lawn church, in South Shropshire along with others from the area that also died in the First World War. I was shown his medals when I was small, by my grandmother, and also the notification from the MOD that he had been killed in action, but sadly we do not know where these are now.
Other memories
i do not know if I can offer more, but among family photos etc., I have a regimental photo taken in France and presume it is the same reg. as my husband's father and his colleagues.

Lawton was in the Royal Welch Fusiliers, Montgomeryshire Horse Yeomanry, (not South Staffs).
He was killed when the British recaptured a French town called Ronssoy, in northern France, previously capture by the Germans.
He is buried in Ronssoy Cemetery, one of eight that died that day, and one of 38 British who died during September and October 1918. (Source: War Graves Commission).
