Albert's Story

Albert served with the Durham Light Infantry, but I don't know which battles he fought or where he fell. We know that he is remembered at Villers-Faucon cemetery. His brother, Arthur, came home a broken man and was institutionalised for his trouble. He never married and we have never found out what happened to him.

I didn't know that I had lost any of my direct family in the First World War until I started researching my family history inspired by the BBC series 'Who do you think you are?'. These men were forgotten to our family until this point and I am so glad that I have found them and can give them the respect for their duty that they were never really given at that time.
