James Davidson's Story
James Davidson Adams was born , bred and first married in Linlithgow West Lothian Scotland. He had only moved to Durham in 1913 on his marriage to his second wife, and in 1914 became a private in the 10th Batallion of the Durham Light Infantry, when war broke out. He was already awaiting shipment to France/Belgium, and was given compassionate leave to come home to see his new seven day old son (my father, who also died young aged 36, and never saw his own children reach adulthood) Jamie never saw Britain again, as he was 'blown to pieces' on Tues 31st July 1915. He was 30 years old. He was killed at Ypres in Flanders, and because he has no grave, his name is on the Menin Gate Memorial in Flanders. My father therefore never saw his father, he was 1yr old when his father was killed in Flanders, and his father only saw him that one time before leaving England. Jamie lives on in the faces of his many grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and we are proud to be his descendants.
