Harold's Story

We have been searching for information about my husbands Uncle Harold Clark who died in WW1, for the past 7 years. It was only at the end of 2007 that we obtained the details we needed to find the regiments he served in, the medals he was awarded, his service records, and that he married in February 1918, had a daughter in March 1918, was sent to France in April 1918, and was killed in Action in Belgium on 25th October, 1918 aged 19 years. We found out that he was buried in the Vichty Military Cemetery in Belgium and obtained a photograph of his grave.

In February 2008 we went over to Belgium and took a poppy wreath to lay on his grave. It was a very sad occasion as it would appear that no-one else had been on a visit, and that his wife in 1922 asked for a photograph of her husband's grave but she was refused this.

Harold joined the Duke of Wellington's Regiment in Leeds when he ws 18, he was then transfered to The Northumberland Fusiliers and on arrival in France was transfered to The Durham Light Infantry in Belgium where he was killed in action.
