Edward's Story

The first shot

My Grandfather told me as a child that he took part in the first engagement undertaken by British soldiers on continental Europe since the Battle of Waterloo, and that he was next to the man who fired the first shot, he firing the second. His war lasted till the following year when he was blinded in one eye by mustard gas, my blind Uncle jack, his brother was blinded in both eyes. The photo is of his passing out in 1912.
