Samuel's Story

Being told that both Sam and John had died young and many not even have been old enough to join

Finding out where Uncle Sam is remembered (Thiepval Memorial). My family tried for a long time to find him and his brother John who is buried in the British and Indian Cemetry in Gorre. My husband, two sons and I first went to France in 2004, almost 88 years after he died. We have returned every year since. Uncle Sam died on 3rd September 1916 aged 21, and uncle John died on 23rd April 1916 aged 23
