John's Story
My great grandfather died in 1917 and unfortunately not much is known about him. He served in France then was sent to Palestine and died in the 3rd Battle of Gaza, at Umberella Hill along with 15 other soldiers on 2nd November 1917. He joined the 8th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and is remembered on the Jerusalem Memorial. He was listed as Killed in Action and we have no idea where he's buried. He won the Victory Medal on 10/3/1915 and the 15 Star Medal in June of the same year

All we have of John is a torn, dog eared sepia photograph in a silver frame. None of the family knew or remembered him.Last year was the 90th Anniversary of John's death, unfortunately we haven't been able to discover that much about him as the Cameronians disbanded in 1968.
We went to the Rememberance Service at the Cameronian Memorial in Central Glasgow to let him know that his Granddaughter Jacquelin and Great Granddaughter Sarah were remembering him with great pride.
