George's Story
Twenty-one-year-old George was killed on the 11.03.1915 and his name is on a memorial wall at Le Touret, Pas de Calais, France, panel 39 to 41. When George was on his way to France from Aberdeen, he new the train would pass through a station near his home in Motherwell. He took a button from his uniform and attached a message for his mother to it asking the finder to take it to her. Some kind person delivered to his mother and I think I have the button but not the message. However, a member of the public heard about this message and wrote a poem about it. I have the poem.
