John's Story

My great-uncle John signed up with the 6th Bn of the Leinster Regiment shortly after the outbreak of war.

A Dublin lad, buried in an unknown spot in the Dardanelles.

He died in the Battle of Chunuk Bair in Gallipoli (10/08/1915), in which the opposing Turkish army were led by none other than Ataturk himself.

Son of Charles and Elizabeth O'Toole, of 4, Knocklyon Cottages, Templeogue, Co. Dublin.

He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial in Gallipoli.
