Thomas's Story

My great grandfather, Thomas Hill, signed up in December 1914 and joined the Rifle Brigade. Arrived in France in May 1915 and was injured probably in September 1915. This resulted in being discharged due to losing an arm. He returned to the UK and eventually worked as a miner whilst wearing an artificial limb.
