Alexander Stewart's Story

Alexander had been in the Army from about 1902, and was in India with the First Seaforths in 1914.

He was sent to France and supported the Second Battalion at Metren and Ypres, but when they were sent to the quieter sections of the front in 1915 to recover from losses and retrain, Alex was posted back to the First Battalion and went to Mesopotamia to fight the Turkish Army who had been successful at Gallipoli. He was mentioned in despatches, for meritorious acts during which the battalion had suffered 60% losses. After the war he married and emigrated to Canada where he died in 1927.
