George's Story
Lance Corporal George Potts was killed on the 28th of June 1915.
He may have been one of the first US citizens to have been killed in the Great War. His parents were of the Potts family from from Faversham in Kent. This family were Mormons and emigrated to Utah in the USA during the 1860s. George was born in the USA however, his immediate family moved back to the UK and settled in Maidstone. George joined the British Army and lost his life in the ill fated Gallipoli campaign. His younger brother Harold was my Grandfather. George was 25 at the time of his death. He was the eldest son of George Benjamin and Clara Potts. His memorial can be found at Helles in Turkey. He has no known grave.
