William George's Story
William, the younger brother of Edward (killed in 1916) and Alice (my paternal Grandmother, joined the Army under age. He was wounded and gassed before being sent home to recover. His age was revealed to the authorities and he was discharged only to be called up again when he was of age. He was killed on the 21st March 1918, the first day of Operation Michael (the German offensive) and is buried in Holnon at Chappell British Military Cemetery. Family history stated that his body had never been found but I discovered a few years ago that his body was found in 1919 and reburied.
